In the hills of Northwest Georgia, Rockmart, Cedartown, and Aragon make up the three towns of Polk County. Each one is different and unique. With an area of just under 3 square miles and a population of just over a thousand, Aragon is the smallest of the three towns in Polk County.

The name Aragon came from local deposits of the mineral aragonite, a type of calcium carbonate. Aragon was once a mill town, but the mill has been closed for years. In Aragon, you will find a post office that has been in operation since 1899. Aragon has a Mayor and four Council Members. Although Aragon is part of Polk County, they have their own police station and fire station. You will also find a cemetery, library, and park with a ball field in the heart of Aragon.

Aragon is a small, quaint community that flows right into Rockmart. On the weekends, you can find a farmer’s market just off Highway 101 that runs right through the middle of Aragon. The Aragon Mill Pond hosts family-friendly activities yearly, commemorating the history of the area.
